Decorative Book Stack DIY With Old Books

Enjoy adorning your space with vintage books? Consider creating an unbound antique book arrangement! They are simple to craft, affordable, and complement rustic, farmhouse, and cottage aesthetics. I particularly appreciate the dimension that book bundles contribute to shelves. I’ll start by outlining the materials required to assemble a decorative book stack. Following that, the step-by-step guide, and ultimately, how to arrange DIY stacked books. Let’s get going!

Materials for DIY Decorative Book Stack

  1. Used books that you are willing to unbind. I began with a collection of paperbacks I intended to donate. Naturally, I then sought more, so I visited my local thrift shop. Both hardcover and paperback volumes are suitable.
  2. Twine or ribbon. You may opt for plain twine, colorful ribbon, or neutral textured ribbon. Choose what complements your decor theme!
  3. Scissors. That’s all. I mentioned this is a straightforward DIY!

Steps to Create Book Stacks

  1. Start by removing the covers from the old books. If you share my passion for books, this can be a bit challenging. However, repurposing vintage books for creative projects grants them renewed vitality, so I believe it’s justifiable. Additionally, the books can still be read if desired!
  2. Remove a few more pages so that a blank page is at the top. This is optional if you don’t mind the text being visible, or if you will place them in a manner that hides the top of the book bundle.
  3. Arrange multiple books. You can position them all in one orientation or mix them to show some spines and some pages (see sample image above).
  4. Measure and cut twine or ribbon, then wrap it around your bundle. When using twine, I circled the bundle a few times for a thicker appearance. I secured all of my bundles, though you can adhere the ribbon together if that is your preference.

Voilà! A rapid, simple, and budget-friendly method to create a neutral decorative book stack. What are your thoughts? These would serve well for home staging, filling vacant shelves, or for seasonal decorations, as I will demonstrate next!
