This article focuses on vibrant wall mural concepts that would be ideal for an office, playroom, or truly anywhere you possess an unadorned wall. The best part is that these DIY felt murals can be effortlessly removed and are renter-friendly, since they are installed with picture hanging strips. No painting required!
We recently concluded our basement, and I’ve been seeking ways to embellish numerous expansive, bare walls. This isn’t exclusively for aesthetic reasons; we also aimed to enhance the acoustics of the vacant area.
I explored various acoustic panels and felt tiles. Ultimately, I opted for affordable felt shapes from Amazon and crafted my own abstract patterns! I trust you will find today’s article useful if you wish to produce something akin in your residence.

Abstract Wall Mural Featuring Felt Shapes
Initially, I designed this vibrant mural using felt squares, rectangles, and semi-circles for a contemporary appearance. The design can be easily adjusted to be taller or wider according to requirements.

It’s a wise idea to arrange your mural on the floor before the wall. This will assist you in visualizing the area! One of my children assisted me with the configuration, making it an enjoyable creative activity together.
After we settled on the mural design, I flipped all the felt tiles and affixed medium picture hanging command strips. I utilized one pair of strips for the rectangles and semi-circles, while two pairs were used for the squares.
Pro tip: If you haven’t employed picture hanging strips on your wall before, it’s advisable to test one in a discreet location to ensure it won’t damage the paint upon removal.
Mounting the Felt Tiles

Once I had attached all the picture hanging strips and removed the backing, I set up my laser level and commenced affixing the felt tiles to the wall. (If you lack a laser level, you may use a traditional level to draw a light pencil line on the wall.)
I didn’t even shift the laser level; I merely aligned the bottom row and progressed from there. However, you can always elevate the laser (or draw a few additional lines) to ensure you are maintaining the design level.

I’m thrilled with how this felt wall mural has emerged! It covers a substantial empty wall and significantly enhances the acoustics. Additionally, it’s great that I can easily detach it and repurpose the felt tiles in different locations if I ever decide to switch things around.
Consider crafting your own design featuring various colors and shapes. This ranks among my top wall mural concepts due to its flexibility. You can effortlessly adjust the dimensions to fit your area. I’m eager to see your creations, so don’t hesitate to tag or message me if you try it out!

Castle Wall Mural Utilizing Felt Tiles
During my search for felt wall mural concepts, I stumbled upon this charming castle! I realized I could replicate it using my personal color palette and style.

Does the fortress ring a bell for you? It draws inspiration from Princess Peach’s castle in Super Mario!
We’re fans of classic video games and I believed this would be a playful way to integrate that passion into our new basement. Furthermore, it’s more understated than officially licensed merchandise. Although we have plenty of that too, so no judgment from me 😉
Speaking of which, take a look at my snug gaming setup with a noticeably themed Pusheen vibe, lol.
Resizing Felt Tiles
I managed to locate red felt triangles to form the castle rooftop, but for the pink flags, I meticulously sliced pink squares in half with a utility knife.

Lastly, to broaden the central castle turret slightly, I halved a beige square using one of the yellow rectangles as a reference. I performed the trimming on a robust cardboard box to avoid damaging the new floors.
Pro tip: Should you need to cut felt tiles for your wall mural, maintain your utility knife at a low angle and simply score along the same line until you penetrate the felt. Proceed carefully and take your time.

Voila! This castle mural consumed merely an afternoon, and it fills me with immense happiness.
