Greetings friends! I’m thrilled to present Fifi O’Neill’s newest publication to all of you – French Flair: Creating a Home Inspired by French Style. Fifi delves into the essential components of a French decorating style — envision gentle color schemes, luxurious fabrics, thoughtfully selected antiques, elegant furniture, and natural materials — fusing sophistication with ease in an enticing way. Today, I’m showcasing one of the residences featured in the book, the delightful dwelling of Kathy McCabe, an interior designer and shop proprietor. Nestled in the historic area of McKinney, Texas, the home is a genuine charmer that embodies a French aesthetic. The entryway boasts arched doorways and gentle blue hues, preparing the scene for the remainder of the house. (all photography is by Mark Lohman).

A cream and soft blue wallpaper create a stunning backdrop for French vintage treasures, paired with a lovely bouquet of sweet pea blossoms.

Kathy and her partner Doug enhanced the home’s interior flow by broadening doorways. Linen textiles adorn the upholstered pieces while cherished vintage discoveries elevate the French ambiance. Kathy runs a boutique known as My Favorite Room that offers items sourced from French farmhouses.

The McCabe kitchen highlighted in French Flair showcases a beautiful wooden floor that emphasizes the soft blues and grays of the home’s color scheme. The two spacious drawers in the center of the island were an addition to the furniture piece and feature warming compartments. How brilliant is that concept? An antique pendant light and white ironstone plates above the sink on the wall enhance the French atmosphere.

Believe it or not, this area was formerly a detached garage for a single vehicle. The room now offers additional dining space for intimate gatherings and cozy entertaining. The buffet beneath the window is a built-in feature.

Antique French doors on a rolling track segregate the kitchen from an additional dining area. French elements are skillfully gathered throughout the residence. Romantic painted furniture, linen textiles, and vintage lighting fixtures contribute unique character to every nook.

Observe the subtle reference to garden areas in the Texas residence. Small sculptures, garden-style furnishings, and fresh blooms point to the couple’s passion for gardening.
