The primary bedroom transformation is still underway, but I wanted to share the progress we’ve made since the pandemic began, especially since I receive numerous inquiries about it whenever I post images from our bedroom on social media. I will refresh this post once I can venture out and acquire the items we still require for the transformation. This primary bedroom renovation has been a lengthy journey, even prior to the crisis. We encountered various obstacles along the way, but we are pleased with the results thus far. The walls appear somewhat empty, and I need to locate another dresser; however, we appreciate the advancements we’ve made.
Here’s a bit of context regarding the transformation.
Like all parents, having children typically means you are last on the priority list. The kids’ desires and requirements always take precedence. I wanted to alter that for Matt and me in 2020. I aimed to make “us” a focal point. It’s vital for the kids to witness both parents prioritizing themselves and placing themselves slightly higher on the list. Crafting our bedroom into a snug escape after a hectic day seemed like bliss to me, and Matt was eager to begin as well.
When we discussed this, my mind instantly went to our bedroom. It has been years since we undertook any changes in there, so starting the new year with a renewed focus on our primary bedroom renovation felt like an ideal starting point. Having just completed Gabrielle’s teen girl’s bedroom transformation, I am in the mood for bedroom renovations and beginning to brainstorm new concepts for our space.
The last time I updated our bedroom was when I executed a mini budget bedroom refresh. Although I didn’t alter much in the space, I added new bedding and decorative pillows. It provided a nice update, but it wasn’t a significant transformation. Check that post to see what our room resembled before embarking on this renovation.
This time, I envisioned a completely fresh appearance. When that’s the case, I always begin with paint. I knew I wanted creamy whites and wooden shades in our bedroom this time, so I selected “Cable Knit” from Nautica paint. This hue is the ideal creamy white shade; it is neither yellow nor beige but rather a bright cream that instantly illuminated our room. I should also mention that we applied a new coat of white paint to the ceiling. Whenever we undertake a bedroom renovation, we always refresh the ceilings. You may not believe it’s necessary, but the new white paint on the ceiling creates a remarkable impact.

The next task we needed to address was the closet door. Our closet door frame wasn’t properly attached to the wall. The doorknob was absent, and since it was a bi-fold door, it occupied far too much space in our small bedroom when opened. I adore our solution. We constructed aDIY Closet Door With Sliding Door Hardware that exceeded anything we could have purchased from a store. I shared the entire project and tutorial. Be sure to check out that post if you’re searching for an excellent solution for a closet door.

After completing the closet door, I began selecting a new bed. The bed shopping was a challenge. I recounted the entire experience on my Instagram account. I hope you’re following me there. I share all the behind-the-scenes details over on that platform. To summarize, I ordered a bed from Amazon, but they lost two-thirds of the order—leaving us only with the footboard. UGH! Subsequently, all the other retailers I found were out of stock and couldn’t provide a timeline on when they would restock.
Eventually, I discovered the bed we desired, but it would take weeks to arrive. It was our sole option. Everything else was stalled until the bed arrived since the rug needed to be placed under it, we needed to determine the sconces’ location once the headboard was in position, and I wished to keep the new bedding in its package until the new bed and mattress were set up. We had sold our previous headboard, meaning we were sleeping on our old mattress on the floor for a month. It wasn’t ideal, yet we managed, and it’s a memory we’ll always cherish. 🙂

While I awaited the bed, I started exploring for rugs.
We have never had a rug under our bed, but since our new bed was going to be elevated on legs, I wanted to incorporate a rug underneath it. I chose this rug from Boutique Rugs. I wanted something lighter for under the bed and something soft for our feet when getting out of bed. This rug met those requirements. If you’re in search of an incredible rug, head over to Boutique Rugs and be prepared to be astonished. Their selection is phenomenal, and you can use the code “creative55” to receive 55% off!!! You can even apply that code on clearance rugs!!!! You can’t go wrong with any of their rugs, and you’re sure to find exactly what you’re seeking. I crafted a post containing some of my favorite rugs and my Boutique Rugs coupon code for easy access.

At this juncture, it was time to select a new ceiling fan and plug-in sconces for the wall.
I wanted a fan that had a wooden appearance. We wished for the room to feel warm, neutral, and possess a cottage ambiance, and most of our choices reflected that “vibe.”

When I spotted the MinkaAireLight Wave fan from Build.com, I knew it was the one.
Matt liked it as well. I adored the color of the fan, and it presented a unique design compared to other fans I’ve encountered.

The fan is equipped with a remote, which is incredibly handy when you’re reclining in bed and prefer not to get up to switch off the light or fan, or to adjust the speed. We’re absolutely enjoying this fan in our bedroom.

While selecting the fan, I also explored the plug-in sconces available on Build.com. I spotted the Hinkley LightingArti Tall Articulating Wall Sconce and was utterly astounded. Choosing between the brass and Olde Bronze was challenging. It was a tough choice, but I’m really pleased we opted for the Olde Bronze finish for the master bedroom transformation.
It was indeed the correct decision. Since we couldn’t position the sconces symmetrically on either side of our bed due to the window placement and the area around the headboard, I had to look for a sconce with a sufficiently long arm that could extend over the new headboard, providing adequate light for reading at night. The Hinkley LightingArti Tall Articulating Wall Sconce was the ideal choice. I explained our installation process on my YouTube channel HERE.
The curtain situation in our room required an update as well.
I aimed to discover some fresh curtains and add new rods for them. While documenting a shopping excursion to Target on my Instagram account, I stumbled upon these curtain rods. The wooden appearance matches our bed’s wood almost flawlessly. I selected these curtains online after the pandemic struck. They are a creamy white hue, which aligns with the color scheme I envisioned for the room.

I desire wooden-tone furnishings in the bedroom, allowing me to retain this table beside the bed. Given the restricted space in our bedroom, I was thrilled to repurpose this table. It’s the perfect size for our requirements. At present, there is a tall stool on the other side of the bed. It might remain, or I might seek something else. We relocated the dresser from our living area into the bedroom, but I’m still in search of an additional dresser for the opposite side of the room. This will all unfold in due course, and I’ll provide updates here when it happens.

Along with the new bed, we acquired a new mattress.
We selected the Alexander Signature Hybrid from Nest Bedding. We chose this mattress because of the variety it provides. This mattress features a “comfort layer.” You can unzip the top of the mattress to expose the patented TitanChill Endurance Foam®. This layer is designed to provide your body with optimal support, with our complimentary exchange program during your 100-night trial allowing you to switch to a different firmness.
Matt and I kept deliberating over what we desired in a mattress. This mattress reassured us with the various options it presented. We can make adjustments if we require different support. This provided us peace of mind, particularly when purchasing a mattress online. So far, we genuinely like it. It’s quite comfortable, and we haven’t discussed the need for changing the comfort layer. Nest Bedding offers numerous other mattress choices. If you’re seeking a new mattress, I would suggest Nest Bedding.
The mattress arrived before we had the bed, but I couldn’t contain my excitement to unbox the mattress. Check out how it arrives and how I unveiled it on my YouTube channel HERE.
After we arranged the bed and placed the mattress on the frame, we needed to acquire a 4″ box spring to elevate the mattress slightly. We were astonished by the one we purchased on Amazon. You can witness how effortless it was to set up on my YouTube channel HERE.

There are still a few items I need to locate to finalize the master bedroom makeover, but we have made significant progress from sleeping on a mattress on the floor. Every bedroom in our home has undergone renovations over the past year, and we are all pleased with the outcomes. The kids now spend more time in their rooms (I’m not just claiming that. They genuinely do). Plus, when I pass by our room and see our new made bed, complemented by the new rug, the sconces….. it fills me with joy. It’s the perfect nook to read a book or magazine and unwind after a lengthy day. I’m eager to select the remaining decor and apply the finishing touches. Perhaps after that, we can address a bathroom renovation??? We’ll see. We need to finish the flip house first.
