Vintage Tree Wall Art in the Dining Room

I’m not always aligned with design fads, but one that I am currently adoring is that of retro tree wall decor. Numerous designers that I admire have incorporated these trendy Stoffer Home Tree Tops prints into their settings, and I simply love the snug, nostalgic aesthetic. However, the price tag… not so much. I managed to discover digital prints of these retro tree engravings on Etsy for just a few bucks each. I then had them printed and framed, all for less than the expense of a single designer print. If you want to recreate this designer vibe on a budget, continue reading for all of the specifics!

Ernest Haskell’s Tree Tops Engravings

Frequently, print shops fail to acknowledge the creator when selling vintage art that has entered the public domain. I did some sleuthing and found the artist—Ernest Haskell. The four engravings are named:

Haskell produced these engravings between 1900-1925, which indicates that they have entered the public domain, and you can indeed download them for free using the links above. I opted to buy the digital prints from Etsy as they were color-adjusted digitally to harmonize with one another and formatted for straightforward printing.

Dining Room Before and Mood Board

Here’s a glimpse of our dining room before. I gave this room a transformation a couple of years ago for the One Room Challenge, and I’m still a big fan of the creamy board and batten. (The shade is Classic Gray by Benjamin Moore.) However, I felt that the dining room seemed somewhat uninspiring and could benefit from more personality.

Once I settled on the vintage tree wall decor, I crafted a mood board using Canva to assist in visualizing the area. I also ordered a checkered rug that has caught my eye since its launch and will feature that in an upcoming blog post.

Affordable Vintage Tree Wall Decor

Here’s the designer appearance for less! I had the vintage tree wall decor printed and framed by Frame It Easy (details outlined below). The total for the digital prints and all four custom frames was under the price of a single Stoffer Home Tree Tops print! The art really warmed up our dining room, and now I can’t envision the space without it. Here are the framing details to consider if you want to recreate this look:

  • Art Size: 12” x 24”
  • Outside Frame Size: 15 3/16” x 27 3/16”
  • Style: Hanover, in Satin Black
  • Matting: 1 1/2” Herbal (White Core)
  • Cover: Non-Glare Acrylic (I selected this as the room is quite luminous)
  • Print Paper: Art
  • Backing: Standard Foamcore
