9 Easy Ideas for Decorating Easter Eggs

Easter is slightly over two weeks away and since many of us are remaining at home currently, we may have some time to be embellishing Easter eggs. Here are nine simple concepts (well, perhaps one is a tad more challenging) for you to explore – even if you’re all grown up!

The first three images employ the same method for decoration. Yellow and purple are the traditional colors of Easter – but truly, any pastel will suffice.

Pastel Blue Easter Eggs

Utilize a children’s dye kit to achieve a solid color egg – or coat them with acrylic paint. Then use a fine-tip paintbrush and white acrylic paint to craft basic designs. Polka dots, tiny blossoms, really any design may be used. You don’t need to be an artist – the eggs don’t have to be flawless.

How about a lovely ribbon tied around the egg? This could be a great choice if you don’t want to deal with paints. Simple and charming!

If pastel shades aren’t your style, paint the egg a richer, unconventional color. Then use sticker-like “ribbon” from the craft shop and wrap it around the eggs.

Purple is a favored Easter hue, so decorating Easter eggs in shades of this color is an obvious choice. Keep the eggs white and draw stripes and polka dots using a purple sharpie.

I adore when eggs are utilized as mini vases. It’s remarkably simple to extract the insides and clean them out. You can see how to achieve this in my latest blog post about crafting DIY bunny eggs. Nestle the egg vase in a tiny bird nest – incredibly cute!

Turn Egg into Mini Vase

Hand-painted eggs create such a beautiful, delicate appearance. I could never paint like this, but perhaps cutouts from a lovely napkin could be decoupaged onto the eggs. I experimented with this technique on some terra cotta garden pots and they turned out quite adorable (if I may say so myself).

Lastly, my personal favorite – speckled eggs that resemble birds’ eggs. A few years back, I shared a relatively simple tutorial for creating speckled eggs. Give it a try! They’re enjoyable to make.

Consider embellishing Easter eggs this year if you find yourself at home while complying with a shelter-in-place order from your governor. Our state is currently in lockdown and practicing social distancing, and thus far it hasn’t been too bad. It’s refreshing to slow down every now and then.
