How to Style Artificial Flowers in a Compote

Have you explored floral arrangement as a pastime? I’ve dabbled occasionally, but always felt disheartened when my display deteriorated after just a few days. Fast forward to this spring when I decided to invest in some artificial cherry blossoms from a woman-owned shop named Afloral. I was so taken aback by their appearance and quality, that I contacted the Afloral team! Today I’m thrilled to be collaborating with Afloral to demonstrate how to arrange synthetic flowers in a compote. Whether you’re an experienced floral artist or a beginner like myself, I trust this post will be beneficial and motivating for you.

Step 1: Collect Your Materials

Here’s what you will require to create your own synthetic flower display:

A Vase or Compote

I am utilizing this gold metallic compote, but here are additional lovely choices. The product images showcase arrangement concepts!

Synthetic Flowers and Greenery

I selected synthetic roses (refer to my recipe below), but here are additional blooms I adore.

Dried Botanicals

For a classic aesthetic, I incorporated dried botanicals into my arrangement as well.

Flower Arrangement Tools

Remember to bring these essential tools for synthetic flower arranging. I used this floral frog and these wire snips.

Step 2: Prepare Your Container

If you are arranging a compote, you may utilize a floral frog or angel vine along with floral tape. For a wide rim vase, you can also apply a floral frog inside, or construct a grid over the opening of the vase using floral tape.

Step 3: Start With A Foundation

I knew I wished to incorporate these bleached ferns at the foundation of my arrangement. Dried flowers are somewhat fragile, so I chose to position them first. I placed five stems around the base of the compote for a cascading, romantic feel.

Step 4: Arrange Your Feature Flowers

Next, I incorporated my roses. I utilized heavy-duty wire cutters to trim the stems, and then simply inserted the ends of the stems into the floral frog. This made it incredibly easy to position each stem exactly as I desired, so I greatly recommend using one for a compote!

Here are a few suggestions:

  1. Trim some of the stems quite short so that the blooms cascade over the edge of the compote. This provides a romantic aesthetic and conceals the interior of the compote.
  2. Progress upwards so that some of the stems are standing tall. Personally, I prefer an irregular, imperfect appearance, so I applied some longer stems on one side and shorter ones on the other side.
  3. Manipulate and adjust the stems to ensure they appear natural (not perfectly aligned).

Step 5: Complete With Foliage and Accents

Now it’s time to enhance your arrangement with foliage and accent flowers. I incorporated three stems of this protea foliage, then added some preserved baby’s breath for texture and a whimsical touch.

Enjoy Your Faux Flowers!

For now, I set my compote on our dining room table as a centerpiece. However, I’m certain I will end up relocating it around our home! Eventually, I might dismantle it and experiment with a new arrangement. I truly love that I can reuse the flowers repeatedly.
