Casual Tablescape for Spring and Summer

Prepared for relaxed entertaining? Design a laid-back tablescape with budget-friendly decor essentials you can utilize throughout the year!

Hey pals! I haven’t showcased our dining space in quite some time, but I finally felt inspired to craft a spring/summer casual tablescape! This would have made an ideal arrangement for Easter (oops!) but will also guide you through Mother’s Day, along with the numerous summer celebrations to follow. You can effortlessly exchange the stoneware plates for melamine and recreate this style outdoors as well. I’ll list all my sources and a few styling insights below!

When it comes to designing a casual tablescape, it’s ideal to use basics that you can reimagine throughout the year! As I continue to curate my collection, I recently acquired these stoneware dishes from Studio McGee’s collection for Target. I adore the chunky, natural appearance and know I will appreciate them for many years ahead. In fact, my cloth napkins and breadboard originate from the same collection–everything is just so lovely! Regarding flatware, gold is stunning, but I have yet to invest in a set, so I occasionally utilize plastic utensils to achieve a similar aesthetic. Before you commence, gather your preferred items:

  • Dishes (any type)
  • Flatware (mine is plastic!)
  • Napkins (cloth or paper)
  • Chargers, table runner, and/or placemats
  • Centerpieces elements such as a vase, flowers, candlesticks, tray, breadboard, etc

Relaxed Centerpiece

The essence of a centerpiece is to establish a focal feature and to introduce elevation to the overall arrangement. Here I incorporated a breadboard (similar) to anchor the presentation and then arranged a straightforward bouquet. Grocery outlets are fantastic for sourcing budget-friendly fresh flowers and are my regular go-to. This time, I opted to indulge in a Farmgirl Flowers bouquet simply because 🙂 I frequently send them as gifts and thought it would be lovely to order one while planning this article. Other instances, I have used artificial greenery in a sizable vase or planter to create a striking effect.

Casual Place Settings

There’s something truly soothing about place settings, as you really can’t miss with a napkin, salad plate, dinner plate, and charger (or tablecloth/runner). I received my fluted gold chargers as a present several years back and use them for nearly every tablescape! They aren’t currently available for online order, but I discovered a very similar option HERE

if you cherish them as well. Regarding the napkins, I lack napkin rings so I simply rolled and secured them with twine, which adds to the laid-back appearance. I mentioned my stoneware plates earlier, but for alfresco dining, you might opt for melamine dishes!

And Enjoy!

Since it has been quite some time since I shared this area–and an entire year since my One Room Challenge reveal!–here are a few additional images…

This spot is one of my favorites with the layered artwork and wooden stool. Ladybug occasionally perches on it dressed as a princess, and it is just the most adorable!
