Crafted from air-dry clay, book pages, and stain, it forms a lovely vintage-style accent for your residence. Whether you’re adorning for Valentine’s Day, a wedding, or simply infusing your area with a bit of charm, this garland is straightforward to create and adaptable to suit your preferences.

- Flatten the Clay: On a clean workspace, flatten the air dry clay to a thickness of approximately 1/2 inch.
- Shape Heart Cutouts: Employ the heart-shaped cookie cutter to produce several clay hearts.
- Make Hanging Holes: Using a small drill bit or straw, punch a hole at the top of each heart. This enables you to string them together afterward.
- Allow the Hearts to Dry: Position the clay hearts on a parchment-lined surface and permit them to dry thoroughly following the air-dry clay’s guidelines (typically 24-48 hours).
- Prepare the Book Pages: After the hearts are dry, outline them on the book pages and cut them out.
- Affix the Book Pages: After the clay hearts are completely dry, employ Mod Podge or craft glue to attach the book page hearts to the clay. Ensure they dry entirely.
- Sand the Edges: Once the Mod Podge has dried, use sandpaper to smooth around the heart’s edges. It’s fine if the book page tears; perfection is not the goal.
- Apply the Stain: Using a soft cloth or paper towel, gently apply wood stain across the entire heart to provide it with a rustic, weathered look. Remove any excess stain and allow it to dry. After drying, I applied another layer of Mod Podge over the stain.
- Construct the Garland: Thread twine or jute string through the holes of each heart, ensuring even spacing. Tie knots as necessary to keep them secure. I simply tied baker’s twine to mine and then connected that baker’s twine to a ribbon.
- Display and Enjoy: Showcase your DIY heart garland on a mantel, shelf, or wall to bring a cozy, handcrafted feel to your decor.
