When I initially encountered Pottery Barn’s metal jack-o-lantern candle holders, I immediately became enamored with their rustic appeal and warm illumination. Nevertheless, the price was rather off-putting. Thus, I resolved to fashion my version at a much lower expense by utilizing plastic jack-o-lantern buckets, spray paint, and some of my preferred metallic hues! This straightforward DIY endeavor provides that luxurious appearance for less than $5 each! Let’s get started!

Materials Required:

Guidelines for the DIY Pottery Barn Jack-O-Lantern Replica:

1. Prepare Your Buckets

Begin by detaching any handles or labels from the plastic jack-o-lantern buckets. Clean the bucket to eliminate any dust or residues.

2. Apply Paint

I attempted to use ordinary spray paint, but it didn’t adhere well to the plastic. Not wanting to purchase additional spray paint with my favorite all-in-one formula available, I opted for that and it performed admirably. Let it dry thoroughly before applying a second coat if needed.

3. Use Bonding BOSS

Next, it’s time to prep the interior of the jack-o-lantern. Apply a smooth layer of Bonding BOSS to ensure the metallic paint sticks much better. Ensure it is completely dry before putting on the metallic paints.

4. Paint the Interior with Metallic

To replicate the upscale look of the Pottery Barn variety, I applied several layers of metallic paint (any metallic shade you prefer will work. I chose copper and gold) to the interior of the jack-o-lanterns.

4. Carve the Face

Once all the paint is dry, it’s time to carve the face. Use a precise knife to cut out the recessed areas for the eyes, nose, and mouth to reveal the metallic finish inside. Exercise caution and keep your blade steady. You may need to tidy the edges and retouch the paint after carving.

5. Insert LED Candles

Put a battery-operated LED candle inside the bucket. The LED candle provides a safe, warm illumination without the risk of melting the plastic or creating a fire hazard.

5. Showcase and Savor!

• If you are spray painting, consider applying a primer beforehand to ensure the paint sticks properly.
