How To Decorate Around a Thermostat

Greetings, everyone! Do you possess a corner in your residence that merely needs a minor enhancement, but you just haven’t allocated the time for it? For me, it was the wall with our thermostat. I actually had a handful of frames (and random nails) positioned here but weeks turned into months and frankly, I ceased noticing it. A few days ago I finally concluded, that’s enough. I gathered a few additional frames and art prints I already had and completed this small undertaking at long last—and I ADORE it! I can’t believe what a transformation this petite vintage art gallery brought about. If you are trying to determine how to embellish around a thermostat in your home, I hope you find this entry motivating. Particularly if you’ve overlooked it for years like I did 😉 I’ll be sharing suggestions for selecting and mounting art, along with some wall art discoveries. Let’s dive in!

How to Embellish Around a Thermostat: The Prior State

You probably have already seen the image, but here is the “unveiling”! I genuinely cannot stop admiring it!

We’ve been pleased with our Nest thermostat (this is the updated version). Besides its functionality, I appreciate its neutral and simplistic design. Nonetheless, in the midst of a vacant wall it truly stood out and distracted from the view into our kitchen. For this petite wall adjacent to our basement door, three frames complement the space beautifully for a tidy and harmonious appearance. Here are the pieces I utilized:

I contemplated spray painting the switch plate and vent cover, but realized I would need to commit to doing all of them (at least downstairs) and wasn’t quite prepared for that. For the photo, I placed one of my lidded woven baskets (similar) in front of the vent, which would be a splendid solution if this area wasn’t directly next to a door we use frequently. But the gallery wall is the true highlight—I could not be more satisfied with how it turned out!

If you have a comparable thermostat wall scenario and are pondering how to adorn around it, here are a few recommendations:

  1. Determine how much wall area you need to cover. If your thermostat is at the center of a large wall (possibly in a living room or hallway), you might want to think about a more spacious gallery wall. Utilize painter’s tape to experiment and outline the area you wish to cover.
  2. Typically, use larger frames than you believe you need. One of the pitfalls I observe with gallery walls is using frames that are too diminutive. Incorporate some larger frames, especially if you’re dealing with a broad space. The frames might be slightly pricier, but the effect will be worthwhile and you won’t require as many!
  3. For a vintage art gallery, the pieces should harmonize without feeling too uniform. These landscapes share similar hues, yet have differing styles. The hydrangea painting also has related tones but adds contrast with its background and subject.
  4. The arrangement should feel balanced, not flawless. I faced a challenge with the light switches being so near to the thermostat. However, the final outcome feels balanced since the frames are spaced evenly from one another (except where the thermostat resides) and the collection as a whole is centered on the wall. Additionally, the largest frame is complemented by the two smaller ones. From my experience, hanging artwork often involves some trial and error. Arrange frames on the floor until it appears right to you!
  5. Check out my Gallery Wall Pinterest board for inspiration. I enjoy pinning gallery walls, and it’s beneficial to view examples while planning your own.
