DIY Faux Stained Glass Cardinal Sun Catcher
Add a splash of color to your area with our DIY Faux Stained Glass Cardinal Sun Catcher! This kit, suitable for beginners, includes a vibrant red cardinal enveloped by sparkling green foliage, all crafted from crushed glass and resin—no glass cutting necessary.
Ideal for crafting evenings, workshops, or seasonal decorations, this project is enjoyable, soothing, and results in a gorgeous handmade present. The pre-cut wooden design ensures that anyone can fashion a stunning piece that resembles authentic stained glass.
At The Makers Map, we simplify the process by supplying laser-cut wooden outlines designed particularly for faux stained glass projects. With just a few basic materials—crushed glass, resin, and a touch of imagination—you can convert these laser wood cutouts into stunning sun catchers that replicate the appearance of stained glass. These wooden frame outlines are also great for glass crafting workshops and classes!

Step-by-step guidance for crafting the DIY Faux Stained Glass Cardinal Sun Catcher:
1. Paint or Stain the Outline
Paint the wooden outline black for a stained glass appearance, or apply a stain for a natural wood effect. Allow to dry completely.
2. Implement Transfer Tape
Flip the outline upside down and affix paper transfer tape to the rear. Press down firmly to ensure all open areas are sealed.
3. Incorporate Crushed Glass
With the outline facing upwards, fill each segment with the corresponding crushed glass hues—red for the cardinal, green for the leaves, and so forth. Press down gently on the glass.
4. Pour & Cure Resin
Gradually pour resin over the crushed glass to fill each area. Allow it to cure completely if using epoxy.
5. Remove & De-Mask
Once cured, gently take off the transfer tape. Admire your creation! Curing duration may differ depending on the resin brand utilized.
6. Hang & Relish
Attach string or hooks through the upper holes and showcase your completed sun catcher in a sunlit window! Be mindful that all resin has the potential to yellow. Therefore, it’s advisable to place it in a sheltered spot, avoiding direct sunlight.
